Black Cat Studios
Melody sees Maine the way most people never do — up close, in the quiet details others walk right past. As a writer, photographer, and photo restorationist, she turns texture, pattern, and place into decoupage art that feels like a love letter to the Pine Tree State. If you've been looking for Maine on your furniture, she's the one filling that gap.

Close Up. Wild and True.

Weathered lobster boats. Bark textures. Lichen patterns. The kind of details most people step over without a second glance. Melody Marie Luciano Norris built Black Cat Studios around the quiet, overlooked beauty of Maine — photographing small moments, manipulating them into patterns, and turning them into decoupage art that captures a place as much as a style. For people who want their projects to feel grounded in something real, something wild, and somewhere specific.

What subjects and themes keep showing up in your work?

Maine keeps showing up in everything I make — coastal textures, botanical details, architecture, old boats, and the patterns most people never notice. I'm drawn to the small stuff: rust, bark, lichen, peeling paint. I photograph the details, then turn them into something you can actually put on a piece of furniture.

How would you describe your creative process?

I usually start with my camera and something most people would walk right past. A weathered shingle. A tangle of wildflowers. I zoom in, find the pattern hiding inside it, and build from there. The goal is always to make something that feels like Maine — specific, honest, and a little wild.

Who tends to connect most with your work?

People who love Maine or wish they lived here. Nature lovers, coastal decorators, anyone who wants their home to feel rooted in a real place. My work also resonates with people who appreciate fine details and care about preserving the beauty of the natural world through the things they make and keep.
